Tennis Holidays: Out & About

In addition to playing lots of great tennis many of our guests like to get out and about during their holiday. We provide all our guests with a detailed information pack, which among other things includes details of the local beaches, great places to eat and drink and things to see and do. With this in mind, we thought it would be good idea to showcase some of the featured material here on the tennis holiday blog.

A Great Day Out: Guadamar Del Segura

Guadamar Del Segura is a wonderful seaside town just a 20 minute drive from our guest accommodation. This is one of our favourite family day out destinations because just a couple of minutes walk from the fabulous beach is a large adventure play area and nature reserve. This is where we usually start off before strolling down to the beach for a bite to eat. The following pictures were taken during our latest day out to Guadamar on Sunday.

Padel Tennis

Tennis Holidays in The Sun

Padel Tennis, more commonly referred to as just Padel is a brilliant game that is incredibly popular in Spain and throughout Latin America and it's proving very popular with our tennis guests.

Our latest guest tennis venue at the Montepiedra Sports Centre is the leading Padel centre in the region. In addition to the excellent all weather artificial grass tennis courts, the centre also has 6 state of the art Padel courts. The centre is home to some of the top Padel tennis players in Spain.

Head tennis coach Gareth Pritchard runs social tennis sessions throughout the week at the centre, but if any of our guests also fancy a go at Padel during their stay, Gareth would be more than willing to show them the ropes.

Great Things About Padel

  • Perfect for players of all ages & Skill levels

  • Very easy to pick up

  • Quick proficiency learning curve

  • A game of finesse not just brute strength

  • Note to UK Padel Players & Teams

The Montepiedra Sports Centre is able to provide:

Top Guest Recommended Restaurants: Mesón del Lago

One of the things we intend to include on the Affordable Tennis Holiday Blog are details of places to eat and drink that have been recommended by our tennis guests, the first of which is The Restaurante Mesón del Lago.

Situated inside the grounds of El Castillo del Conesa (The Castle of San Miguel de Salinas), The Restaurante Mesón del Lago is ideal for anybody looking for something typically Spanish.

Only a 10 to 15 minute drive away from our guest accommodation this must visit and surprisingly inexpensive restaurant is proving to be a firm favourite with many of our guests. As with most places in Spain The Restaurante Mesón del Lago is very child friendly and even has a large play area for children.

Introducing Our Latest Tennis Venue: The Montepiedra Sports Centre

    Affordable Tennis Holidays

Located just a few minutes drive away from all our accommodation options, we are delighted to announce that our guests will now also be able to play tennis at the Montepiedra Sports Centre during their stay. This excellent venue boasts 3 all weather artificial grass tennis courts and 6 Padel tennis courts.

Head coach Gareth Pritchard runs social tennis and open coaching sessions throughout the week, costing just 3 Euros, per person, per hour. Alternatively if guests would simply like to play among themselves, courts can be hired for 12 Euros per hour (slightly more if playing at night under floodlight).

Gareth is now working in conjunction with David Ashwood, the resident coach at our other main tennis venue, The Orihuela Costa Resort. If guests would like any individual or small group coaching during their stay; or if visiting tennis clubs would like some competitive match play, we can work with Gareth and David in organising the required tennis itinerary.

The Inaugural Affordable Tennis Holiday (ATH) cup.

The Montepiedra Sports Centre recently played host to the Inaugural ATH Tennis cup. The event organised by Gareth and David involved local players competing alongside our guests from the David Lloyd Club in Enfield.

A total of 24 players took part in an American style tournament which saw partners rotate throughout a series of doubles round robin matches. After all the round robin matches had been completed, the four highest scoring players played off in a final series of doubles matches.

Many congratulations to the overall winners Ryan Wyatt from the Orihuela Costa and Shaun Matthias from the David Lloyd club Enfield; and an honourable mention to the runners up Tony Jordan and Mickey Ireland. For anybody fortunate enough to see the final the standard of play was outstanding throughout and the match was played in the very best sprit of the game.

Following the tournament, trophies were presented to both the winners and runners-up and a special presentation was made in honour of Eric Young who at the tender of age of 74 was named as most valuable player. Thanks to the generosity of fellow tennis player and local restaurant owner Rafael De Leo, Eric and his wife Anne will be enjoying a romantic meal for two at Mama Mia's restaurant on the Cabo Roig strip. A thoroughly enjoyable day for all concerned was rounded off with a meal at The Montepiedra Sports Centre restaurant.

Welcome To The Tennis Holiday Blog

    Tennis Holidays

A big Hola from me David, my other half Louise and our two boys Luca and Paolo. Prior to moving to Spain in 2003 Louise worked as a recruitment consultant and I was a University lecturer.

We both love playing tennis and thanks to the great playing venues in the area, combined with the fact that we look after a number of holiday homes the concept of affordable tennis holidays in the sun became a reality in April 2005.

The primary aim of this blog is to let people know more about where we are based, where our guests stay, where our guests play tennis and what else there is to do in this wonderful part of the world.

The blog will also allow me to showcase the very best freely available tennis related information and resources on the Internet. For instance, I will be able to show brilliant tennis videos like this one.
